As I sit down to write this, I’m reminded of the many conversations I’ve had with you—those encouraging words and thoughtful reflections that have led me to this moment. After careful consideration, and with your support, I have decided to put myself forward as a candidate for the role of President of Gulshan Club Ltd for the term 2024-2025.

My journey with this esteemed club began in 2004. Since then, I’ve witnessed the incredible transformation of Gulshan Club, not only as a physical space but as a thriving community. It’s never just been about the buildings or facilities for me. It’s about the people—the lifelong friendships that have been forged, the shared moments of celebration, and the common goals that unite us. Together, we’ve shaped the club into something special.

As we look toward the future, I feel a deep sense of responsibility and enthusiasm. I am eager to bring my experience, dedication, and passion to the role of President. Leadership, in my eyes, is about listening, collaborating, and ensuring that we stay true to the values that bind us. I know that with your support, we can continue to build on the foundations of excellence and camaraderie that define Gulshan Club.

Reflecting on my contributions, I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Members during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 when I served as Director of Finance. Together, we made significant strides in improving the club’s financial standing, a result that was only possible with the collective efforts of everyone involved.

In 2020-2021, I was elected to the Board of Directors, where I took on the responsibility of overseeing Entertainment. With your immense support and the collaboration of our subcommittee, we brought a variety of musical programs. These events weren’t just entertainment; they were opportunities for us to come together as a community, strengthening the bonds we share.

One of the proudest traditions at Gulshan Club has been our 17-year sponsorship of the DBL Snooker and Billiards competitions. This event has become a hallmark of the club, consistently supporting our institution and nurturing new talent in the game. It stands as a testament to our commitment to both sport and community.

Looking back, I am truly humbled by the various roles I’ve had the honor of holding within the club—Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Advisor to numerous Committees over the decades. Each position has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the growth and success of Gulshan Club. With your continued support, I am confident we can achieve even more.

Beyond the club, my professional journey began in 1988, when I joined our family business after completing my Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. Today, I am privileged to serve as the Deputy Managing Director and Group CEO of DBL Group, a diversified conglomerate involved in industries such as Garments & Textiles, Spinning Mills, Washing, Printing, Packaging, Dredging, Pharmaceuticals, Ceramics, Semiconductors, Information Technology and Telecommunications among other ventures. Our group employs over 47,000 people, contributing to both local and global markets.

We are not only focused on business—we’re deeply passionate about cricket. Our love for the game inspired DBL to step into the Bangladesh Premier League by acquiring the Chittagong Vikings. For several unforgettable seasons, the Vikings represented our commitment to excellence and our shared passion for the sport.

On a personal note, I am the youngest of eight children, born to the late Al Haj Abdul Matin and late Jinnater Nessa. My father, a businessman, began his career in Dhaka in the 1960s, and his legacy continues to inspire me.

I am happily married to Taslima Begum, and we are blessed with two sons, Ahnaf Abed and Ayman Aowsaf. My wife, a homemaker, has been my constant support throughout this journey. Our eldest son completed his undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University in New York and earned his master’s degree from King’s College, London. Our youngest son is currently in grade 11 at the American International School Dhaka (AISD). Our daughter, Ayesha Farzin, who left us in October 2022.

As I look ahead, I am filled with optimism. Together, I believe we can ensure that Gulshan Club remains a vibrant and inclusive family club, where members of all generations come together to build meaningful relationships, engage in enriching activities, and create lasting memories. My commitment to serving the best interests of Gulshan Club and its members is unwavering.
